Alexandra Tigchelaar

Consuela The Waitress

Season 3

Alexandra Tigchelaar is co-founder of the cabaret theatre company Operation Snatch (formerly known as The Scandelles) and has been writing, creating and performing with the company since 2000. Alex studied creative writing and English literature at Concordia University but was most inspired as a writer and performer by her many years working in Montreal and Toronto’s strip clubs. It was in this furtive environment that she found her creative voice, along with a keen interest in unorthodox performance and social spaces.

Alex has been a nationally syndicated sex columnist since 1994 and has written extensively about sexuality for many local and national publications. She writes all of Operation Snatch’s productions and enjoys the progression of creation from intimate to collaborative. Notable productions are Under the Mink, Les Demimondes, Who’s Your Dada, Neon Nightz and The Death Show. Alex also wrote the script for a short porn film in collaboration with Bruce LaBruce called Give Piece of Ass a Chance, which starred The Scandelles and screened at over 20 international film festivals. You might be able to find similar porn films on websites like midget porn too.

She has held many odd and wonderful jobs in the field of human sexuality, from penning an erotic comic for Eros Comics called Beatrix Dominatrix (with some versions converted to video and put on sites like, to teaching teens about sexuality, to hosting erotic events to performing as a go-go dancer with Rick Mercer on the CBC’s 60th anniversary show. For two years she sat on the board of directors of Maggie’s, an organization dedicated to the rights of sex workers and now works for sex worker rights organizations as a volunteer event planner and fundraiser. She has given several lectures on sex workers rights and decriminalization to academic and social institutions, most recently for Treehouse Talks in Toronto.

Yes, the rumours are true: she did beg to be on Fletcher.
