Q&A with Vanessa Dunn

Since making her Fletcher debut at the end of Season 1, we’ve received a lot of messages for this Fletcher favourite, so Vanessa Dunn took time out during the holidays to answer your questions. We started with a few of our own.

How did you come to be part of the Fletcher team?
Lindy and I have known each other for years and she asked me, via Facebook(!), to come aboard.

Your character was originally part of a case, and now she’s a season regular as George’s girlfriend. How have you found that transition?
Interesting. I assumed I would only be a part of one episode so it was amazing to be brought back and be given a developing character with a developing story line.

How would you describe your character, Jenna?
Patient.

What do you enjoy most about filming Fletcher?
Working with everyone involved. There is a lot of laughter on set.

How have you found the response from the fans?
To the show? Exciting! To my myself/my voice? Lovely.

Fan Questions

What else have you been in?
Oh, tons and tons o’ films that will never see the light of day. Random commercials. I took a break from acting for roughly 4 years and this last year has had me focusing on the business of getting better and getting jobs.

What makes you laugh?
Honestly, when I need a quick yuk, I type “funny falls” on YouTube.

What is your favourite place in the world?
Two places: my cottage and my bed.

If you were a fruit or a vegetable, what would you be and why?
I love this question. I would be a plum for no other reason than it is my favourite word. Seriously. Say it and feel what it does to your mouth.

Are you really British? Does that British accent come easy to you?
I am not British but my mum is. To be honest, any Brit can tell you my accent on Fletcher is pretty tragic. I blame the fact that my first day of filming Fletcher followed Pride Week and my very tired brain could muster only a very generic accent – everything afterward has been consistency (That’s what I tell Regan! ha). But yes, I am capable of doing a very decent British accent.

What’s the worst pick-up line that someone’s used on you?
I don’t recall having ever been tossed a pick-up line! Boring but true. Wait! In high school, someone compared my voice with Joan Rivers (and meant it as a compliment!). Which is horrifying for a number of reasons…

What’s your idea of a perfect day?
Sleeping in, waking up next to my girlfriend, morning sex (sorry, TMI), long brunch, longer walk with the dog, a bath, reading in bed, watching a great film followed by a late night exchange of our most embarrassing moments (or anything else that makes me gut laugh) and finally, sleep.

Does Jenna have more than one coat?
Ha ha!

What do you have in common with Jenna?
Firstly, what we don’t have in common: style. It is an ongoing struggle to find conservative clothes from my wardrobe (thus the ‘pea coat in every episode’ deal). The dream is to have Jenna in vintage (non-ironic) acid wash in Season 3. You hear that, Regan?!

What we do have in common: our love of dorky girls.
